my favorite color

"If any color is boring, it's navy blue," you said with a laugh.
...
Blue is not boring.
Color is not boring.
It is the fragmented rays of the sun,
Impossible and wonderful and godly, all at once,
Infusing with vitality an otherwise dull and monochromatic world.

When I think of navy blue, I see the sky,
Dark, but shot through with tiny crystals full of light,
And I feel anticipation: no one else is awake.
(Save perhaps some dogs; a faithful orchestra of crickets.)
The morning will come, but for now, let's dance,
Bask in the ribbon radiance of the moon.
The dew will come, the sun surely rise --
But let's just run and play like kids,
'cause we're s'posed to be asleep right now.
How many stars are up there, anyway? Who even counts them all?
The wallflower backdrop of this surreal display
Is navy blue:
Not boring; dark, but bright.

When I think of navy blue, I see the sea,
The iris of a pair of eyes,
My favorite shoes, a pair of jeans,
That college you all so deeply love,
The cover of a book that I hold dear,
The beauty of a simple, common rock: hidden, unrecognized, and wild.

Look. Everyone has a favorite color.
But boring?
...let's agree to disagree.
