You can't make people listen to your voice.
Some will, and some won't.
You have to trust them to not plug their ears. It's hard to do, but I've decided that I'm ready.
I'm going to let more people hear my voice, whether they like it or not. And it's like jumping into the sky, heart leaping into your throat, hoping your invisible wings will catch you,
and then, not even caring
Because
You're flying.
I'm flying today. With a start, I notice that my wings have appeared. They're quite colorful and large, perhaps even gaudy. But I am laughing in the clear, cloudless blue, sunshine sparkling all around, because I don't care if anyone hears me.
I can sing.
We birds don't sing so that others will hear and say "that sounds pretty!" No.
We sing for the sake of singing. We sing because there is a song to be sung. And it's just balled up inside of me, notes, lyrics and all jumbled up together like yarn. It is jittery, excited, just waiting to be let out.
It is my song, and I sing it because it is mine.
